Will Snow White's Scary Adventure lose the scary?

We all know and somehow still love this attraction that highlights the terrifying and dark adventures of Princess Snow White. However, the ride is getting a makeover and the results may have a happier storybook ending.

The Disney Parks Blog posted an announcement stating that the ride will be closing in January of 2020 for renovations. Some of the new additions for the ride are said to include a beautiful forest scene where the Prince kisses the Princess awake as well as a new end scene with Snow White being welcomed back by her furry friends in front of the dazzling castle. Besides new scenes, the ride will take on new music, laser projections, LED lighting, a new animation system, and a refreshed exterior. It is about time!

Though Disneyland fans are the most nostalgic of all, the renovation does not come as a surprise. Snow White's Scary Adventures also appeared in Disney World (and was even more frightening) but was renovated in 1991 before being removed completely in 2012 and turned into the current attraction, The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

This Disney princess-themed dark ride was one of the original few included in the lineup of attractions on Disneyland's opening day. Originally titled Snow White and her Adventures, the ride took you through the story of the princess through her perspective, meaning you never actually saw the raven haired beauty herself. After many critiques about the ride not including the princess and being quite frightening, imagineers changed the ride to include Snow White and changed the title to Snow White's Scary Adventures during the renovations of Fantasyland in 1983.

However, it still only had Snow White appear once in the only upbeat scene where the princess and the dwarfs are singing and dancing around their cottage. After that, it is all about dark forests and Evil Queen cackles until the end where the witch is killed and the wall says "they lived happily ever after". Boom. Over.

The new and improved ride will take some of the magic of the original motion picture and bring this beloved ride back to life.

Are you excited about change or upset about Disney touching an original attraction?
